OLIVER E. WILLIAMSON (1932-)

Williamson é um destacado teórico do novo institucionalismo. Fez doutorado pela Carnegie-Mellon University, em 1963, e é, atualmente, professor de "Economics and Law" da Universidade da Califórnia, em Berkeley. 
É o criador do conceito de "mecanismos de governo" (Mecanismos de controle de governo) que se refere aos sistemas de controle dos riscos associados a qualquer transação. Seus campos principais de pesquisa são: economia das instituições, estratégia das organizações, burocracia, política e custos de transação.
