PHILIP H. WICKSTEED (1844-1927)
Economista britânico, Philip H. Wicksteed foi durante alguns anos pastor da Igreja Unitária e escreveu sobre literatura, teologia e filosofia. Analisou e divulgou as obras de Comte, São Tomás de Aquino, Aristóteles, Ibsen, e muitos outros. Sua filiação à Sociedade Fabiana despertou seu interesse pela economia. Teve influência de Jevons e da Escola Austríaca. Escreveu sobre a teoria da escolha econômica e da alocação de recursos escassos. Sua contribuição mais famosa é o uso do teorema de Euler ao propor que a distribuição, segundo o princípio da produtividade marginal, esgotava o produto total. Considera-se que foi quem afastou aos fabianos do marxismo.
Para Wicksteed não há diferença entre os aspectos econômicos da vida humana e os "outros" aspectos. Convidou os economistas a terem uma visão ampla de seu campo de estudo, permitindo e compatibilizando os sentimentos humanitários, preservando um olhar crítico e um senso comum.
