REINHARD SELTEN (1930-)

Prêmio Nobel   1994
Economista alemão, nascido em Breslau (atualmente Wroclaw, na Polônia), Reinhard Selten obteve o Prêmio Nobel de Economia em 1994, compartilhado com John C. Harsanyi e John F. Nash, por sua análise pioneira do equilíbrio na teoria dos jogos não cooperativos. 
Selten fez a licenciatura em Matemática na Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe Universität de Frankfurt. Trabalhou durante dez anos como professor ajudante na Universidade de Frankfurt, onde obteve seu doutorado em 1961. Em 1969 tornou-se professor de economia na Universidade livre de Berlim e em 1972 transferiu-se ao Instituto de Economia Matemática da Universidade de Bielefield. Desde 1984 é professor na Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität de Bonn. 
A principal contribuição de Selten foi publicada em 1965, quando ele definiu os conceitos de decisões racionais e irracionais na predição do resultado de jogos não cooperativos. O autor também refinou o conceito de equilíbrio de Nash para analisar a dinâmica da interação de estratégias.
