Como teórico de administração de empresas, Myron J. Gordon tem analisado o uso dos sistemas contábeis para o controle descentralizado de grandes empresas. Interessou-se também pela estimação do capital e do valor das empresas, e por comparações teóricas sobre o papel do mercado e das instituições públicas no controle dos lucros empresariais. Uma de suas contribuições mais conhecidas é o modelo de dividendos descontados com crescimento, quando os dividendos são gerados por empresas que reinvestem uma parte de seus lucros.
Gordon também tem realizado contribuições interessantes na análise do crescimento e estabilidade na economia do Bem-estar e no socialismo de mercado, tendo dedicado atenção especial à economia da China.
Graduou-se em Economia pela University of Wisconsin em 1941. Depois da guerra mundial continuou seus estudos na Harvard University, onde obteve seu mestrado em 1947 e seu doutorado em 1952. Tem também um doutorado honorífico em direito, concedido pela McMaster University em 1993.
Foi professor nas escolas de Administração da Carnegie-Mellon University (1947-52), do Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1952-62), da University of Rochester (1962-70) e da University of Toronto desde 1970, onde permanece até hoje. Também foi professor visitante da University of California em Berkeley (1966-67), da Hebrew University de Jerusalém (1973), da University of Pennsylvania (1977) e da New York University (1985).
Gordon foi Presidente da American Finance Association, membro da Royal Society of Canada desde 1993 e editor das revistas acadêmicas Journal of Finance, Financial Management, Journal of Banking & Finance, e Journal of Economics & Business.
