Economista marxista britânico, Dobb estudou em Charterhouse e Cambridge. Foi docente na Universidade de Cambridge e membro do corpo do Trinity College. Estudou a economia soviética e trabalhou com Piero Sraffa na análise da teoria econômica de David Ricardo.
